As stated by the OECD itself, the broad theme of the Ministerial meeting is “Driving long-term recovery and economic growth by building a trusted, sustainable, and inclusive digital future” and will build on the OECD rich work on digital economy policy in the recent years, to look forward to addressing the challenges in the years to come. CDEP Ministerial Meetings are major global events, and they are not that frequent. Previous OECD digital economy ministerial gatherings were held in 2016 in Cancun, Mexico, in 2008 in Seoul, Korea, and in 1998 in Ottawa, Canada.
The Gran Canaria 2022 ministerial meeting finds us, as the OECD puts it, in a global context where “digital technologies have fundamentally changed our societies and economies. While essential to economic growth, prosperity, commerce, innovation and social advancement, digital technologies have dramatically affected market structures, exacerbated inequalities and opened new dimensions of risks to rights, shared values and important interests, such as privacy, security, safety, well-being and fairness.”
In the face of this very complex scenario, which is crossed by deep and global humanitarian and environmental crises, to name some, CSISAC stands for solidarity in the digital age and seeks to unleash the potential of people by helping each other.
